A CT calcium score is a way of looking at any calcium built up in the arteries supplying your heart muscle.

Calculating the amount of calcium on the scan can help your doctor assess your risk of cardiac disease.

Procedure

You will lie on your back on the scanner with your arms above your head. You wll also have electrocardiogram (ECG) leads placed on your chest to monitor your heart rhythm. During the scan, there will be some short breathing instructions to follow.

Before your Scan

No nicotine products (smoking or vaping) 4 hours prior to scan.

Before the procedure, you may be asked to change into an examination gown for your comfort, and to ensure clothing does not affect the imaging. You may also be asked to remove jewellery, eye-glasses and any metal objects that might interfere with the imaging.
