A CT scan can be performed on any part of the body.
These scans are usually of bones such as wrists, hands, legs and feet.
Your doctor may refer you for a CT to help diagnose a problem, to better define a known problem or to monitor for changes.
You will lie on the scanner in the best way to image the part being scanned. For example, you will lie on your back if your lower limbs are being scanned, or possibly your front (stomach) if your upper limbs (wrists/hands) are being scanned.
Usually, there is no contrast required. Read more on IV contrast.
Before your Scan
Before the scan, you may be asked to change into an examination gown for your comfort, and to ensure clothing does not affect the images and diagnostic quality of the scan. You may also be asked to remove jewellery, eye-glasses and any metal objects that might interfere with the images.
Duration
15 minutes.
