In March 2026, Adelaide Thunderbird Futures player Jemma Kelly fractured cartilage off her patella and femur.
As the preferred radiology partner of the Adelaide Thunderbirds, Jemma visited Jones Radiology at Calvary Adelaide Hospital for a knee MRI, giving an insight into the important role medical imaging can play in understanding and monitoring sporting injuries.
Jemma’s scan was reviewed by one of Jones Radiology’s Musculoskeletal Radiologists, Dr Claudio Coscia. As part of SA’s largest team of specialist musculoskeletal (MSK) radiologist, he brings a depth of expertise to these particular types of needs and injuries.
“That’s what we look at all the time,” Dr Coscia said.
“Based on that, we can provide a specialised report, and if required we can perform injections and procedures on the athletes, all in conjunction with the medical team looking after them. So often it’s a multi-disciplinary approach, and we’re one of those members on that team.”
The “Road to Recovery” content piece captures Jemma’s experience, from her MRI appointment through to the next steps in her recovery.
At Jones Radiology, we’re proud to support the Adelaide Thunderbirds and the athletes who inspire us through their dedication, resilience and commitment to their health and wellbeing and trust us with their injury diagnostics and recovery journey.
We’re wishing Jemma all the best with her recovery and can’t wait to see her back on court soon.
