Dr McGavigan is a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist. She completed her undergraduate medical degree in Melbourne and commenced postgraduate specialty training in obstetrics and gynaecology in the United Kingdom.
During her twelve years in the UK, Dr McGavigan obtained her Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, UK (2004) as well as the Advanced Diploma in Obstetric Ultrasound of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, UK and the Royal College of Radiologists, UK.
In 2007 Dr McGavigan returned to Australia where she was awarded Doctorate of Medicine (MD) for her research into mechanisms of breakthrough bleeding with the Mirena as well as Fellowship of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist.
In addition to Adelaide Women’s Imaging Jay works as a Staff Specialist Obstetrician and Head of Fetal and Maternal Medicine at Flinders Medical Centre as well as a Senior Obstetric & Gynaecological Sonologist with South Australian Medical Imaging.
Dr McGavigan’s area of interest is predominantly in prenatal diagnosis, fetal dysmorphology and high risk obstetrics. She has however also developed a niche interest in gynaecological scanning for endometriosis, fertility assessment and pelvic floor integrity.
