Rounding out a year-long celebration for the practice and our community, the event was enjoyed by long-serving team members, emerging leaders, and valued collaborators who reflected on the thousands of clinicians and staff across multiple generations who have strengthened our reputation and earned the trust of the South Australian community.

In her address the Governor reflected on the personal ties that connect the practice to the community. “It also feels a little like a family occasion to me,” referring to her late mother’s sister, Helen, having married Dr Geoffrey Jones, one of the founding doctors of Jones Radiology. This connection highlights both the longstanding personal and community relationships that have helped make Jones Radiology a trusted name.

“Jones Radiology merits the ‘icon’ description, as a well-known and well-regarded name in the community”, the Governor kindly observed.

Reaching a centenary is a rare achievement in any field – but in healthcare, it represents something truly incredible: a century of service to the community. This milestone has given us the opportunity to reflect on where we’ve come from, recognise the people who shaped our organisation over the decades, and look ahead to the future of Jones.

Our story began in 1925, when Dr Harold (John) McCoy returned from England to establish a radiology practice on North Terrace, when the science of imaging was just starting out. In the 1950s, Dr Geoffrey Jones joined the practice, lending his name to the organisation that continues today.

Over the past century, Jones Radiology has been at the forefront of remarkable advancements – from the earliest X-rays to cutting-edge imaging technologies such as MRI, PET/CT, and the state’s first Photon Counting CT. These innovations have transformed healthcare, enabling earlier diagnoses and improving outcomes for patients.

Technology alone doesn’t make us who we are – our people do. For a century, radiologists, technologists, nurses, administrators, and support teams have brought skill, compassion, and professionalism to their work.

As the Governor said, “At the heart of any medical practice is the relationships built and sustained with clients and allied partners.” These relationships, alongside the dedication of our people, have been central to Jones Radiology’s growth – from a single clinic to 27 sites across South Australia and Alice Springs.

While this milestone is a moment of reflection, it is equally a launchpad for the future. As we continue to embrace diagnostic innovation, expand access to quality imaging, and strengthen our partnerships across South Australia, our commitment to our patients remains the same.

We are extremely grateful and would like to thank Her Excellency for hosting this memorable event and to all who attended. Most importantly, we thank our community for 100 years of trust. Our past has built our foundation, our present continues to strengthen our purpose, and we are excited to shape the future of medical imaging for another 100 years and beyond.
