While we no longer offer film disposal, there are several community-based recycling and disposal options available.

Many local councils and recycling organisations accept old X-rays as part of:

  • Recycling or waste recovery programs
  • Community drop-off points (often located at libraries, community centres, or council facilities)
  • Specialist recyclers that recover silver from imaging films for reuse

Patients are encouraged to contact their local council or waste management service to confirm the nearest available drop-off location.

Why the change?
Medical imaging is now securely stored and shared electronically, so physical films are no longer required for clinical care. Moving away from film allows us to:

  • Provide faster, more secure access to images and reports
  • Reduce unnecessary handling and storage of physical media
  • Deliver a more efficient and consistent service across all clinics
  • Support environmentally responsible practices

Information for Referrers
This change does not affect how you access imaging. Reports and images will continue to be delivered via secure digital platforms, ensuring timely availability for clinical care.

Supporting a digital future
This transition is an important step toward a more connected, modern healthcare experience for both patients and referrers.
